Nepal, The Muleteers of Hunger
Northwest Nepal has been deprived of basic infrastructures by 10 years of civil war and has
suffered drought conditions since 2005.
In 2007, a World Food Program report sounded the alarm: 60% of children in the Mugu
valley suffer from malnutrition and 40% of the Nepalese live below the poverty line. We
follow an Action Against Hunger mission who travel to isolated mountain villages to seek out
children in danger and bring them emergency rations. Two humanitarians, Emilie Crozet and
Hélène Schwartz, with 8 Nepalese porters, walked for 3 days to reach the community clinic
in Jodepane at 3400m altitude. © Stéphane REMAEL
