Illegal Immigrants at Patras
A common route followed by many migrants that try to enter Europe illegally is through Greece. The situation in Greece, however, is so heavy that no one wants to stay for long due to extensive police violence, asylum granted with dropper, human rights violations, abuse of immigrant rights on their arrival in Greek territory an so on. The hard legislation that Greece passed in 2009 is not local but a common European policy against illegal immigration. The city of Patras gathers a big number of Afghan immigrants that try to sneak inside the boats that depart daily for Ancona, Italy. Although last summer after a police raid many immigrants were arrested and the makeshift settlement was demolished, many still stay outdoors, under the trees and still seek for a way to Northern Europe. © SIMONE PEROLARI
